"For the past few years we have had the absolute pleasure of dining at Rapa Nui Cucina. Chef Rodrigo and his family have made us feel like part of their family. His food speaks for itself. It is elegant for those who recognize and appreciate the fine detail that only a chef of his caliber can provide.
Yet is very approachable for those who desire a great meal without the pretentious attitude that can be found at some high-end restaurants. High quality, local, seasonal ingredients are the basis for the menu which draws from several cuisines and is paired with a quality wine selection.
Chef Rodrigo does a couple of very special things that are quite rare in this country. He operates his restaurant in the manner of a true, European dining experience. His restaurant has limited seating, maybe 20 or so, but once you have reserved a table it is yours for the evening. You will never feel rushed to finish your meal so the table can be “turned”. It is exactly the opposite. He encourages you to relax and enjoy each course to it’s fullest. He personally serves each course to each diner and makes himself available for questions and conversation.
One additional special process which Chef Rodrigo embraces is what happens after a reservation has been made. If you have not been to his restaurant before, he will personally call a day or two prior to the date and inquire if there are food allergies or any special dietary needs of anyone in your party. Incredible!!
Unfortunately, for us and many people here in Kailua-Kona, Chef Rodrigo is moving his restaurant and his talents to Florence, Italy.
He and his family will reopen Rapa Nui Cucina there as well as a Bed and Breakfast. Our loss is their gain but we now have a great reason to visit Florence.
